Oscar the Christmas Kitten is a Heartwarming Family Holiday Story
By Sandra Koehler Lee
Oscar the Christmas Kitten, written by Robert and Beverly Kynor and illustrated by Michael Martinez, is a story about a little gray feline who wanders from home in the winter days just before the Christmas holiday. Any family who has had a pet escape, especially during a holiday, can immediately relate to the sadness and anxiety of trying to find a lost pet.
However, the interesting thing about this tale is it's written from Oscar's perspective.
We witness Oscar's departure from his home to see the neighborhood Christmas lights. Oscar shares how he ended up farther from home, making it more difficult for his family to locate him, how much he misses his family and how his adventure ends happily when he is reunited with his "Dad."
Oscar the Christmas Kitten is a story the whole family can enjoy, especially those who have pets. My 4-year-old loves hearing the straightforward narrative and often "reads" it herself, poring over the colorful illustrations. The book includes the true story of a real Oscar who was missing from his Colorado home for three weeks. There also is a section about the authors, Beverly Kynor and her son, Robert.
The hardcover book can be purchased from Amazon or directly from the book website, www.Oscarkitten.com (which also offers kid activities and coloring pages) with a holiday sale price of $13.95.
You also have a chance to win a free copy of the book in ParenthoodNJ's Holiday Contest.
